Import and Export of templates and profiles

Diat can export and import diat jobs (.ds) as single files. These profiles contain both profile, destination and icon.

The jobs can be exported by rightclicking a job and selecting "export" and imported by rightclicking and selecting "import".
The import of jobs can be automated both during installation and at later startups of Diat. This is done by placing the .ds files in the diat Predefined folder

Until version 2.3. build 19 the path for this is

Example: c:/Program Files/Mediateket AS/DIAT/Predefined

From version 2.3 build 20 the path is

Example: c:/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/Mediateket AS/Diat/Predefined

To import jobs when installing place the Predefined folder in the same folder as Diat installer.

Version 2.3 Uninstall file

DIAT 2.3 leaves some registry settings when un-installing, and the following procedure is needed when upgrading to version 2.4:

This procedure will remove registrations of some video codecs previously installed by DIAT. It should not interfere with other installed software, but you should remember to always take a backup before doing this on important installations.
  1. Make sure you are logged in as an user with administrative privilidges.
  2. Download the DIAT 2.3 Uninstall registry file to your machine, and store it on your desktop.
  3. Uninstall DIAT 2.3 using the "Uninstall DIAT" entry in the programs folder.
  4. When DIAT is removed, open the .ZIP-file on your desktop, and double-click the .reg file inside.
  5. You will be asked if you want to include the registry settings present in the file, answer YES.
  6. You may now install DIAT 2.4.

Codecs and formats

Matrox DV Software Codecs

The Matrox DV Software only Codecs are not included in the installation of DIAT due to licensing restrictions; however, they are available for download directly from Matrox under DigiSuite Support - software updates
After downloading and installing the codec package, please restart DIAT in order to enable the usage of the Matrox AVI codecs.

Matrox AVI and slow network save

We have seen very slow network transfer in some situations when using Matrox DV (AVI). Typically its 10 times slower that QuickTime DV.

This has been seen at NRK FBI/Puls and BTV. Both locations the recieving machine is a GeeVS videoserver with Avid editors in a LANshare. It seems this has nothing to do with LANShare, the performance is the same with LANShare client disabled.

Sony XDCam MXF and rewraping

The MXF implementation in DIAT supports OP1A IMX 30,40, 50 and DV NTSC & PAL.
Sony MXF as destination supports rewrap only if source and destination are both DV 4:2:0 (PAL) or DV 4:1:1 (NTSC).

Interlaced Windows Media

Due to limitations in Microsofts Windows Medida Format (WMF), there is only some combinations of WMF versions that may create interlaced video. The different versions of the WMF are installed with the Windows Media Player. At least version 9.0 is required for DIAT to work.

  • WMF 9.0 and 9.5
Interlacing is only supported when using the Windows Media Video 9 codec. Does not support Windows Media Video 9 Advanced Profile at all.
  • WMF 10 (Installed with Windows Media Player 10 and later)
Interlacing is only supported when using the Windows Media Video 9 Advance Profile.
Does not support interlacing when using Windows Media Video 9.
In other words; If the computer has Windows Media Player 10 installed (and thus the WMF version 10), the Windows Media profiles must be configured to use Windows Media Video 9 Advanced Profile in order to support interlacing.

QuickTime

It has become difficult to support Quicktime 6.5.2 and 7.x in one version of DIAT, and we have therefore moved to Quicktime 7.x with the DIAT release 2.3.0.

Versions prior to 2.3 uses Quicktime 6.5.2.

Third party software and DIAT

Avid and Quicktime

The following versions of Avid supports (requires) Quicktime 7.x and will need an upgrade to DIAT 2.3:

  • Avid Media Composer 2.5 (both software and adrenalin)
  • Avid xpress pro 5.5 and later
  • Newscutter 6.5 and later

Previous version of Avid does not support Quicktime 7.x and will not work with DIAT 2.3.

If you have installed Quicktime 7.x (on your own) with older versions of Avid, you should also be able to use 2.3.
There are no incompatibility between DIAT and older versions of Avid - this is just due to different Quicktime requirements.

Avid export settings

This is an Avid settings file configuring a proper QuickTime Reference export suitable for direct drag and drop to DIAT.
Import the settings file, set it to default, and drag your timeline and clips directly out of Avid to DIAT.
(This requires that DIAT is able to read the codecs used in the Avid project. The only format currently supported from the timeline by Mediateket is DV (PAL/NTSC), DVCPRO and IMX).

Click on the thumbnail to the right to get a screen shot of the settings window.
